TV News: NFL Network Makes My Day.....Then Ruins It

Thursday, April 26, 2007

Don't you hate that. It's like when you were in Middle School and someone is passing secrets around. You're stoked to be on the inside, and when they start to tell you.......all of a sudden they stop. "Oh I can't tell you", and they pass right by you. God**** awkward teenage years!

Well that's how I felt reading this John Ourand blurb in Sports Business Daily.

Title: NFL Streaming Eight NFL Network Games Online; New Web Effort. (F'ing Rad!)

NFL Network plans to stream the eight regular-season games that it televises over the Internet, making them available only to NFL Network subscribers, network President Steve Bornstein said at Manhattan’s Hammersmith Ballroom last night.
(Crap.) I used to get the Network but not any longer. So to all you NFL Networkers.....Congratulations (A**holes)!

Don't the PR people at the NFL realize intentionally shutting off fans from watching games might slightly piss them off?

No, I guess not. Douchebags.

What, exactly, is the point? If you subscribe, odds are you will be watching the game on your television, right? I mean, I love my computer screen as much as the next basement dwelling, underwear-er does, but given the choice, I'll watch the game on my TV.

Kinda cool they are heading in the right direction, but I just don't get it.

I agree. In the immortal words of Demetri Martin, "The only thing I like better than watching a tv show is watching it smaller and blurrier."

That's a little counter productive don't you think? If you can watch it on TV why in hell would you watch the game online? As I assume regardless you cannot avoid the worst play-by-play guy in the world; Bryant Gumbel.

I believe the correct term is underwear-wearer, but I agree with you point 23. Perhaps it's a test to see if they can support something like this on a broad scale. By only making it available to NFL Network customers, that ensures that they will deal with a very low volume of internet viewers to begin with. Sort of like the games they're already televising.

My question is how are they going to figure out who is a subscriber and who isn't? To my knowledge, people I know with NFLN didn't have to ask for it, it just came with a certain cable package. I can't think of a way for them to restrict this off the top of my head...

The idea is if you have NFL Network but are not able to get to a TV, you could watch it on the computer.

But, then again, you're not really talking about that many people since it is in primetime.

It's kind of like the Blockbuster Total Access thing; if you could exchange it at the store (meaning it would be somewhere nearby you), why would you wait for it to come through the mail in the first place? LOL

Ok I tried to watch the Packers/Cowboys game tried that is...
After I went to three pack full pubs in Central WI I was forced to watch it at home on the net. It wasn't bad until I realized that the lousy sports casters on the NFL network took up almost half to game with their own personal useless commentary. We missed an entire Green Bay possession largely because of Bryant Gumble and some other moron. Did Gumble get fired from other networks for a reason?

Also is it just me or were the announcers (and in my opinion the refs as well) overly bias is this game. Granted as a packer fan I'm sure other Packer fans will agree with me but, seriously Cowboy fans was the commentary not bias? On top of being terrible...

I'll say now and I'm sure it will be said again the NFL network is ruining football as we know it.

Oh and please God fire Bryant Gumble!
