Kornheiser Aware Of MNF Criticism, Doesn't Seem To Care

Monday, November 19, 2007

Not that you would expect him to, but Tony Kornheiser is aware of his detractors and doesn't seem to be bothered by them at all. In an interview with the Rocky Mountain News the MNF analyst had this to say about the bad reviews....

"I don't read most of the criticism," Kornheiser said while sipping water in a coffee shop near the Denver Newspaper Agency. "I don't want to end up hating someone because of what is said or written."

"I know where Dan's [Dierdorf] coming from. He's a purist when it comes to broadcasting football," Kornheiser said. "Part of my job is to entertain fans. That's why Howard Cosell, who was marvelous, was in the booth.

"That's the element ABC and now ESPN want on Monday night." Kornheiser believes he's "improving" as his second season rolls on. 'Jaws' (Jaworski) and I communicate well with Mike (Tirico). I'm learning not to interrupt the flow of the game."
Um actually you're really not, and would you really hate someone if they wrote poorly about you? That seems a little petty if you ask me. And it doesn't appear as if he'll be hating the author of the article at the RMN who described Tony by saying, "His agile mind is several levels above the jock mentality of many NFL announcers."

Jock mentality? Like actually caring about the play on the field???

Kornheiser at ease with his p's and q's on 'MNF' (Rocky Mountain News)

I hadn't really watched MNF much this year until the Steelers played. From what I had seen before that game, I didn't think Tony was that bad. After listening to him for a whole game, I think he should be kicked out of the booth.

MNF is so much more entertaining when you mute it and watch the video only. For me, I do it picture-by-picture on my plasma screen while watching CBS's Monday night lineup.

If you can believe it, the conversations on CSI: Miami are more intelligent (and often more football-related).

Tony would hate someone if they wrote something badly aobut him.... Remenber Paul Farhi?

The only reason Farhi got attacked by korny and wilbon was because he made jokes about korny's skin. However korny had skin cancer and everyone at the wp knew. Go after him in the booth, not his skin when you knew he had skin cancer.

I love TK, but being thick-skinned in not his forte.

He seems to enjoy his feuds too much.

Count me among those who thought they would like Kornheiser in the MNF booth. I was wrong.

He is so beyond terrible that he's starting to piss even someone as affable as Jaws off.

I was watching a replay of the Stillers game and he was slyly ripping Korny, pretty good, and I don't think Korny liked it all that much.

That was the "I GOT IT!" game...

You think Jaws needles him constantly during commercials? I bet Theesman never did that.

I still don't know why, outside of marketing ESPN brand garbage, he's there. He hates football, he likes gossip.

Is he really comparing himself to Howard Cosell? I "loved to hate" Cosell, I just hate TK.

The relationship between Tony and Jaws is much better than it ever was with Theisman as we are finding out. I think the fact that Jaws is in the booth now is one of the reasons why I think Tony will be back to MNF next season.

This makes me dislike Kornheiser in the booth even more. The fact that he doesn't listen to his critics and try to improve (like Bryant Gumbel tries to do even though he will probably still suck), and instead makes it a point to ignore them makes me respect him less.

That's it Tony, screw the fans and what they want and how they want the broadcast to be like. Give them what YOU think they want and if they don't like it, you could care less.

"Part of my job is to entertain fans. That's why Howard Cosell, who was marvelous, was in the booth." Cosell could care less if people liked or hated him, but he always knew the game was the star, not him.

I truly hope he is not comparing himself to Cosell. That would be beyond sad.

nothing on Vick turning himself in early? Oh wait, was that also "broken" on a blog two weeks ago?

Krony has an agile mind? He fucking falls asleep during the goddamn game!

Jaws has to kick him in the balls to wake him up.

The intrajournalist ass-kiss fest continues.

He actually used some fucked up "karma" excuse for the Stillers sucking last year.

He's a boob. Cosell cared about the game, Korny doesn't, he hates it.

i don't think many people styed up to watch the end of last week's game becasue the 49ers offense stunk and the game was a blowout and a stinker to watch. I was surprised tht Tirico, Kornheiser and Jaws didn't fall asleep like everyone else around the country.

Cosell was an actual sports announcer, Kornheiser is just a dick with a microphone.

Please, PLEASE, PLEASE..give the MNF contract back to ABC, revive Howard and Dandy Don...OR give Madden and Michaels SNF and MNF. At the very least, dump Tony KornSHEISER whose forte is interjecting inane commentary while plays are being made on the field. What a self-absorbed windbag!

2- I don't see Tony Lirnheiser leaving MNF anytime soon.
3-Al Micheals and John Madden are not leabing NBC.
