Redeemed!

Sunday, August 24, 2008

Let them shut me down for posting this one. 118-107 is your final and Team USA Basketball has been officially redeemed....

I have to admit that I got a bit teary eyed when all of the players went over and shook Doug Collins hand after the buzzer. Even though I've heard Collins tell the '72 Games story about a million times, it's good to know that these players know their roots. Just a great run for a great team. I'm proud to be an American, proud to be an NBA fan and proud that this team got their Gold.

It felt good to see how excited the bench guys were during the game and then see the excitement when Wade and Kobe hugged during the Sager interview.

The way this team handled itself makes me extremely gratified.

great work with that vid AA...It'd be nice one day if Doug Collins could be part of a staff that wins Gold

The last 5 minutes of the game were just awesome. Kobe is amazing.

Kobe and Wade made some huge plays both offensively and defensively in the 4th quarter. Great game by the US. And finally the gold medals are back where they should be.

As my dad said, they were like little kids at the end. Sometimes they forget that it's a game when they're making all that money in the League.

What a great moment. I'm extremely proud of this team for doing it the right way and feeling pride in playing for the U.S. Watching our team celebrate as the final buzzer sounded is something I'll remember for the rest of my life."USA! USA!"

A lot of credit to the players, of course. A great TEAM effort. But a tip of the hat to Jerry Colangelo for getting USA basketball back on track, and to Coach K -- the perfect mentor for this task.

Mission accomplished!

world of isaac,
you do know the coaches do not receive medals, right?

i don't think the hand-shaking was indicative of collins "speech" or anything --- just the fact breen and collins were the two nearest americans to the court.
if you ask me, it was a slap in the face to coach k and his staff.

A slap in the face? Seriously? Give me a break.

who cares about Olympic basketball, seriously we can watch basketball almost year round (at least it feels like it) the "real" Olympic sports are much more exciting then watching the US Basketball team. It's a shame AA did not focus on more/different sports during the last 2 weeks.

I second the acknowledgement about the doug collins handshake. it wasn't disrespect to Coach K but a shout out to the old '72 team.

OK, by closing credits, that one is a top 5. Great job by NBC.

The tape-delay stuff is idiotic. But the sheer manpower required to pull a broadcast off over 18 days is unbelievable.

a shout out to the '72 team? NONE of the current players were even born in '72. they could care less about that.

You know the players put their gold medals over Coach K's head

This was great to see. It should restore faith in the integrity of some of these players, they put country over self and that should be commended.
