TNT Grabs Good Ratings For The NBA ASG

Monday, February 16, 2009

I wasn't one of them, but a lot of people tuned into the NBA All-Star Game yesterday. In fact, the game was up 6% over last year. Via TNT PR....

TNT's exclusive coverage of the 2009 NBA All-Star Game on Sunday delivered a 4.1 US HH Rating, representing a 6% increase from the prior year, and 6,855,000 Total Viewers, up 8% from last year's telecast, according to Nielsen's Fast Nationals. The West, led by co-MVP's Shaquille O'Neal and Kobe Bryant, defeated the East Squad 146-119.

The event also delivered ratings growth in Homes (4,665,000), up 8% from last year, as well as key adult demographics, including:

* A18-34 (2,517,000) +10%
* A18-49 (4,033,000) +6%
* A25-54 (3,445,000) +12%
As far as All Star games go, the NBA one is by far the most entertaining, but it's still only about half of what the MLB gets.

Sorry AA, but the NBA All Star game is NOT by far the most exciting.

That would be the baseball All Star game where you can see some of the best pitchers matched up against the best hitters.

The NBA All Star game is more like a Globetrotter/And 1 game too much for my liking. No one takes it seriously and it's a lot of hot dogging and no defense.

Maybe back inthe 90's but I think the MLB game is far more interesting and exciting.

People turned just to hear Reggie Miller butcher the English language.

I agree Agree with rondoman. The only all-star game that is worth getting exciting about is the MLB's, although I would have to say that the best pre-all-star festivities would be the NBA's.

I also agree. I watched the entire MLB All star game, about half hour of the NBA game, 15 minutes of the NHL game, and none of the Pro Bowl. The MLB ALL-star game actually resembles a real baseball game with the best offense, defense, and pitching. All the substitutions altar the game from the ideal but everybody is trying on both sides of the ball. Think about how well Uggla's errors are remembered while noboby will remember the piss poor defense that was played last night within a couple of weeks.

Personally I like the NBA All-Star Weekend more than any other all-star games. It's an entire weekend filled with great events, musical performances etc. As far as baseball, I think it's idiotic the fact the all-star game decides the HFA (home-field advantage). HFA must be decided on the court, not during the all-star game. That's why you play regular season games. I think it's extremely unfair when a team who has a better record has to start the world series on the road just because their league lost in the all-star game. It's something I don't understand and it really doesn't make any sense.

btw, people always say that there's no defense in the NBA all-star game, but it wasn't the case this year. With the exception of the last minute (it turned into a dunk contest) they played defense.

well don't forget the MLB ASG is on broadcast tv, while the NBA's one is on cable.

An interesting question is: why is the NBA All-Star game on cable? That might be all we need to know.

NBAPISTONS:

How does baseball decide home FIELD advantage on the court?

Weird. . .

Also, I agree deciding the HFA for the W.S. in the all star game in dumb, but that has nothing to do with the actual game itself and the matchups and such.
