Sorry, one more post before I head out. I really thought ESPN had rid themselves of the Mike, Mike & Mike experiment, for the late MNF Football game in week one, but that's not the case. They did however get rid of the third Mike, and have replaced him with Steve Young. So your trio heading out West for the Chargers-Raiders game on September 14th is, Mike Greenberg, Mike Golic and Young.
But wait....there's more! Not only will Greeny and Golic be calling the late game for the third year in a row, but they will be hosting the 6pm Sports Center on Mondays, throughout the NFL season. Via ESPN PR....
Mike Greenberg and Mike Golic, co-hosts of ESPN Radio’s popular Mike & Mike in the Morning, will team with ESPN studio analyst and Hall of Fame quarterback Steve Young to call the San Diego Chargers-Oakland Raiders game as part of ESPN’s season-opening Monday Night Football doubleheader on September 14 at 10:15 p.m. ET. The game will follow the Buffalo Bills- New England Patriots telecast (7 p.m.) when ESPN’s main commentator team of Mike Tirico and analysts Jon Gruden and Ron Jaworski makes its regular season debut.Ugh. Mike Golic isn't the worst, but his Football cliches become annoying quickly, and Greenberg can't seem to keep up with the pace of the game. While Mike Ditka was dreadful, he was the only thing remotely entertaining about the broadcasts in year's past.
Greenberg and Golic will also expand their roles on Mondays during the NFL season as co-hosts of the 6 p.m. edition of SportsCenter. The duo will recap all of Sunday’s NFL games and other weekend sports news, and look ahead to each week’s Monday Night Football matchup, by bookending their Mondays from 6-10 a.m. on ESPN Radio (simulcast on ESPN2) and hosting the one-hour SportsCenter from the ESPN studios in Bristol, Conn., beginning Sept. 21.
“As we kick off the 40th season of Monday Night Football, we are excited to have the familiar faces and voices of Mike and Mike back on the doubleheader game this year alongside Steve, a Hall of Famer, who will offer the kinds of insightful opinions that have made him one of our top NFL analysts all these years,” said Norby Williamson, executive vice president, production, ESPN. “We are equally pleased to create yet another new role for Mike and Mike on the 6 p.m. SportsCenter in the latest evolution of our season-long ‘game around the game’ coverage of Monday Night Football.”
I completely understand that this is a whole cross promotion thing, but the two are terrible calling games. The game is unwatchable by the second quarter. ESPN should really just pu a college play-by-play guy in with one of their 40 analysts on staff, and they'd be fine. Any combination of Sean McDonough/Ron Franklin and Young/Dilfer/Hasselbeck/Tom Jackson, and you'd have a great broadcast.

Brad Nessler, Ron Jaworski, Dick Vermeil=excellence.
Knowing that this is probably going to suck again, they should have gone to the complete extreme and added Mike Patrick as co-play-by-play announcer. They would keep their cute Mike and Mike and Mike combination, plus we would have the entertainment of the worst announcing trio ever.
Why are they doing this? 6 PM is now going to be unwatchable.

I hope that everyone agrees with MOST of what I said. You don't have to agree with everything, just most of it.
Think of how much more comfortable Mike and Mike will be this year than last at their jocular banter and inserting promos for ESPN products.
I can't wait, and with Steve Young trying to out-erudite these two assholes all the time, it should be a great broadcast.
Plus with the killer audio quality they had going on last year, that made the broadcast sound like it was being done from Sammy Baugh's outhouse, top notch TOP NOTCH!
At least that bald walking rat Korny won't be whining all over the place.
ESPN management learned from their mistake when they put Nessler, Vermeil & Jaworski together on the second game back in 2006.They teamed up three guys who quite simply blew away their primary crew.(Tirico,Kornheiser & Theismann)Sure won't ever let that happen again.What do you suppose the chances are of ever seeing someone like Nessler & Millen doing that game ? Slimsky and nonesky!! Instead we get three slappies. Just wonderful. James
I would be anxious to see how Steve Young would do on games, but I am afraid that I will be watching the debut of the Jay Leno Show at that time and leave the other TV on this game and this poisonous crew.

Second: watching Leno. Really? Really. I take it you're in your mid to late fifties.
I really think they should add Stuart Scott. He seems to weasel his way onto just about everything else that ESPN does. Have you seen many ESPN promos that DON'T feature this insufferable person?
Ron Franklin doing the NFL makes sense -- he called Houston Oilers games on radio in the 80's before joining ESPN.
I am 23 years old. No, I am really am. I want to see how Jay does in primetime. I am one of the younger guys who like him. I will continue watching MLB Network at 5 o'clock Central.
Monday Night Football hasn't really had a good team of commentators since moving to ESPN. I vote we move MNF back to ABC. And while we're at it, let's move the NBA and MLB back to NBC and FOX gets nothing but NASCAR and arm wrestling. Of course, I'm not in charge of making those decisions.
Well, I guess if there's one good thing about the Monday night game is that the Chargers will probably be up 31-0 by the middle of the second quarter so you're not going to want to watch the second half anyway.
Is ESPN seriously this obsessed with the NFL? I take it that most of the serious football fans get their information from the NFL Network and they're probably killing ESPN in that demo, which is why they are totally selling out.
Monday Sportscenters will just become extensions of NFL Live. What will be the difference?
To say that this is a disaster is being too kind. Greenberg is HORRIBLE on SportsCenter. I never watch it when he does it. I definitely won't watch it anymore. I have not watched the 5 o'clock SportsCenter since baseball season started. That is when I watch MLB Tonight. I feel soooo much better about everything. Hey ESPN, you couldn't get Brad Nessler to do the game again? You couldn't get Eric Allen in the booth? WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE????????????
